Inside 6 Homes That Prove Traditional Interior Design and Modern Style Really Do Go Together

“We’ll just fix it up a little bit.” Which is what Ashley Stark Kenner imagined when she and partner Nick, founder and CEO of Just Salad, bought a city dwelling on New York’s Higher East Side to make place for their developing family members. The landmarked 19th-century setting up experienced a ton likely for it—generous dimensions, a deep yard, and, a rarity amongst city properties, tons of light. But at their very first conference with New York–based Lichten Architects, talk speedily shifted to “gut renovation.”

The formal living room was developed as the setting for the owners’ recurrent gatherings, so Huh spared no cost furnishing the place. Commencing from the tailor made-made pomegranate-patterned rug, Huh designed up a loaded but cheerful palette of pale oranges, peaches, and delicate pinks. Household furniture-clever, she blended eras, matching pieces like Art Deco Dedar-upholstered Bergère chairs from Karl Kemp with a vintage blown glass Murano chandelier and an historic Greek terra-cotta standing Aphrodite, which looks around the custom couch with material by Brunschwig and Fils.
