John McGovern Obituary (1933 – 2022) – Garden City, NY

Dr. John P. McGovern, 88, died peacefully on December 30, 2021 in Newington, Connecticut. John was born on September 1, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY. A person of sharp wit and intellect, John grew up in Brooklyn and Richmond Hill he later graduated from La Salle Military services Academy in Oakdale, NY and Fordham University in the Bronx. Fordham held a particular spot in John’s heart, and the Jesuit philosophy of “Men and Gals for Many others” informed his entire life. He was an Aerial Navigator in the Air Pressure and was also a dedicated scholar and educator. He gained both his Master’s in Enterprise Administration and Doctorate of Instruction from Hofstra University. He used nearly four decades at Nassau Community Faculty, where by he lived and labored as a Professor and Affiliate Vice President, prior to retiring to South Glastonbury, CT. He was fully commited to his communities and was really engaged civically as a founding member of the Fordham Alumni Club of Very long Island as effectively as the Welcoming Sons of St. Patrick of Extensive Island. He was a member of the Irish American Society of Nassau and Suffolk, the Historic Purchase of Hibernians, the Irish American Home Society, the Leitrim Culture, and served a lot of roles together with Grand Knight and District Deputy of the Knights of Columbus. John was also a devout loved ones gentleman. He was married to the late Ann B. McGovern (Martin) for sixty yrs, and together they would return to his beloved County Leitrim, in Ireland, as often as they could to go to relatives and buddies. John will be deeply skipped and fondly remembered by his spouse and children: his three daughters and their spouses, Barbara and Thomas Pescuma of West Islip, NY, Coleen and Victor Antico of South Glastonbury, CT, and Deirdre and Brian Moore of Glen Rock, NJ his sister, Maureen McGovern his sisters in law Bridget McGovern and Sister Eileen Martin S.C. as effectively as his grandchildren, Thomas and Maria, Nicholas, and Michael Pescuma Stephen, Jack, and Katherine Antico Patrick and Anne Moore and his 3 fantastic grandchildren, Thomas, Bianca, and Jeremy Pescuma. John was beloved by his nieces and nephew as well as his a lot of cousins both of those below and in Eire. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating John’s existence will be Monday, January 10th at 10:00 AM in the Church of St. Anne, 35 Dartmouth Road, Yard City, NY. John will be interred in the family members plot in St. John Cemetery, 80-01 Metropolitan Avenue, Middle Village, NY 11379.
