The French Bedroom Company asked astrologist Eloise from The Wellness Foundry to share her expertise on the interior design schemes that best suit each star sign.

Georgia Metcalfe, co-founder and creative director of The French Bedroom Company, says: ‘It’s fascinating how our star sign can play such a key part in driving our style choices. The small yet significant differences between each one allow us to express ourselves in ways that feel honest and authentic. Choosing the right interiors at home takes careful consideration, we always recommend investing in pieces that make you smile and maybe listening to your Zodiac sign traits will make our homes a happier place.’

Aries, March 21 – April 19

Design personality: Impulsive, daring, confident

It will come as no surprise that Aries is the most confident decorator of the zodiac. Like their fellow fire signs, Aries is passionate, motivated, and confident.

An Aries should avoid permanent fixtures in the home: ‘This is due to them taking inspired action so if the mood is right, they like to redecorate on a whim,’ says Eloise. Aries tend to jump from style to style when inspiration hits, and their competitive personalities mean they need to be the first to adopt new trends.

Aries like open spaces and bright colours that stimulate them while keeping up with their energetic personality, a touch of opulence to signal their success, and some daring accessories that reflect their confidence in their own personal taste.

Taurus, April 20 – May 20

Design personality: Sensual, comfortable, serene

It’s all about romance, comfort, and luxury in the home of a Taurus, as this earth sign is drawn to relaxing environments surrounded by soft sounds and soothing aromas. Pleasure is an absolutely necessity for the epicurean Taurus and they feel most content when pampered.

A Taurus should decorate with silks, velvets, and cosy cashmeres to provide the softest of touches, plenty of mood lighting, and scented candles and fresh flowers to indulge the senses.

Taurus is ruled by Venus, the planet that governs love, beauty, and money, and so colour preferences err on the side of romance – creams, soft pinks, accents of gold, and emerald green to match their birthstone.

Gemini, May 21 – June 20

Design personality: Eclectic, playful, the host

A Gemini has an open mind and likes to experience as much as possible – appropriately symbolised by the celestial twins, this air sign is interested in so many different pursuits, passions, and styles, that they lack a signature style when it comes to their homes.

They will collect everything they love in one place and fill their space with unique trinkets, and as Geminis are ruled by Mercury, the planet of technology, the latest gadgets too.

As the social butterflies of the zodiac, buzzing between dinner parties and dance floors, Geminis should create homes fit for a party, with plenty of comfortable seating, a thoughtfully designed spare bedroom to accommodate guests, and of course, a fully stocked drinks trolley.

Go for iridescent colours to match your birthstone, the pearl.

Cancer, June 21 – July 22

Design personality: Sentimental, considered, cosy

Cancers are highly intuitive and sensitive to their environments, so you can be sure that every detail in their home will be considered – although don’t expect an open invite, Cancers are extremely self-protective of their personal space, shielding themselves with a hard external shell much like their celestial counterparts, the crab.

Cancer is ruled by the moon, representing comfort and self-care, which in design terms, usually translates into cosy personal sanctuaries focused on relaxation.

Sentimental to a fault, a Cancer would do well creating a personal gallery wall full of photos of their loved ones, and scatter their homes with trinket boxes to store personal treasures. According to Eloise, a Cancer would feel most at home in a cosy space full of soft furnishings in soothing neutral colours, accessorised with lots of locally sourced antiques.

Leo, July 23 – August 22

Design personality: Glamorous, lavish, bold

Vivacious and passionate, Leos love to place themselves in the spotlight, revelling in lavish dinner parties and exclusive social events. An understated home simply won’t do for these celestial magpies, as they are drawn to anything shiny, glamorous and over the top.

Leos design their homes to be as loud as they are, and won’t shy away from showing off their indulgence of the finer things – thriving in boldly decorated spaces full of oversized feature pieces, plenty of metallic finishes, and luxurious soft furnishing such as velvet and silk. In terms of colour, Leos have one of the most luminous birthstones, the peridot, and do well to add accents of shining green.

This spirited fire sign is ruled by the sun, and so do best in bright homes with plenty of natural light.

Virgo, August 23 – September 22

Design personality: Neat, minimalist, natural

The perfectionist of the zodiac, a Virgo must have everything in their homes meticulously organised, and in logical order. A sense of calm will reign, and as Eloise adds, the home of a Virgo will be satisfying to look at if not particularly comfortable to relax in.

Virgos err on the side of minimalism, as their methodical and systematic approach to life is reflected in a home free of unnecessary embellishments. They do well with clean lines, a smattering of geometric pattern, and practical storage to hide clutter.

This earth sign is represented by the goddess of wheat and agriculture, and in design terms, have deep ties to nature and earthy tones. Wood and natural stone will be comforting to a Virgo, and organic shapes will break up the harshness of such a minimal home.

Libra, September 23 – October 22

Design personality: Harmonious, elegant, creative

A Libra’s life – and design aesthetic – revolves around balance and harmony, represented by the celestial scales. Ruled by Venus, the planet of love, beauty, and money, these aesthetes will surround themselves with carefully selected objects that reflect their well-developed tastes.

As Libras strive for equilibrium in all areas of life, a well-balanced home is a must – never too ostentatious or too minimal.

With a natural flair for design, Libras make for great interior stylists. ‘Libras understand the magic of a well-placed vase or rug and have an uncanny ability to make a stylish masterpiece out of anything,’ says Eloise. A Libra’s home will be peaceful, with plenty of romantic motifs – hearts, cherubs, flowers – and they would do well to invest in plenty of storage to keep their possessions orderly and their space harmonious.

Scorpio, October 23 – November 21

Design personality: Dramatic, gothic, meticulous

The Scorpio is one of the most enigmatic and seductive of the Zodiac, but much like their celestial spirit animal, this water sign hides a venomous sting. It is this hidden dark side that will inform a Scorpio’s environment, leaning toward mid-century gothic and industrial design, with plenty of deep, romantic colours like emerald green, burgundy, and plum. Scorpios will be drawn to luxuriously tactile fabrics – faux fur, silk, leather, and rich natural woods.

A high level of self-awareness means that details are important, so interiors are usually meticulously planned out down to the last doorknob. A Scorpio would do well to lighten the dramatics with scattered references to their shining blue birthstone, the topaz, that encourages healing, recharging, and aligns the meridians of the body.

Sagittarius, November 22 – December 21

Design personality: Adventurous, flexible, nature-inspired

The intrepid travellers of the zodiac, Sagittarius can be found wandering the globe, chasing new thrills and adventures.

Born with an unquenchable thirst for change and novelty, it is unlikely that a Sagittarius will be able to stand a single design scheme in their homes for very long. ‘A Sagittarius is endlessly curious and forever roaming so is likely to mix things up regularly,’ says Eloise.

With so much adventure in their lives, Sagittarians are excellent storytellers, and their homes will always reflect this, with walls filled with maps, interesting artefacts, souvenirs, and postcards.

A strong proclivity for the outdoors means that Sagittarians are drawn to natural colours and materials, and pieces that reference the ocean, mountains, or any number of foreign landscapes that can spark their imagination.

Capricorn, December 22 – January 19

Design personality: Traditional, functional, craftsmanship

Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, the planet that governs time and restrictions, and accordingly, display workaholic tendencies. Capricorns will likely have the best home office spaces of any other sign in the zodiac, with a functional desk and stylish storage, as well as the latest smart technology.

This earth sign is said to be traditional and errs on the side of conservative, which translates to an elegant and classic home that stands the test of time. Large armoires, leather sofas, a smattering of vintage or design collectibles are all within a Capricorn’s design wheelhouse.

They will also be grateful for the time and effort put into crafting their furniture and will focus on this rather than the cost. ‘A Capricorn will most likely splurge on one or two features to add to the rest of their home decor, rather than going all out on everything,’ says Eloise.

Aquarius, January 20 – February 18

Design personality: Eccentric, harmonious, tech savvy

The anti-establishment Aquarius will likely have the most interesting home to visit. Represented by the water bearer, who symbolises compassion, spirituality and idealism, Aquarians are the most humanitarian astrological sign. Their homes will reflect their radical social awareness with plenty of inspiring artwork, and unique objects from independent designers.

Free-spirited and eccentric, Aquarians will want to surround themselves with the unconventional, but they do need plenty of time and space for reflection, and to formulate ideas, so usually create a calming and tranquil space at home.

Aquarius is also ruled by Uranus, the planet that governs innovation and technology, so expect their homes to be filled with the latest gadgets.

Pisces, February 19 – March 20

Design personality: Spiritual, calm, dreamy

As the final sign in the zodiac, Pisces is said to have internalised the trials and tribulations of them all, making these celestial fish the most empathetic, compassionate, and often spiritual of the astrological wheel.

This is reflected in a harmonious and romantic design scheme, with elements that invoke the spiritual – Pisceans will be big fans of scented candles and incense.

Ruled by Neptune, the planet that governs creativity and dreams, a Pisces can often be found mindlessly daydreaming. ‘Pisces will have fluffy cushions, soft throws and mood lighting to help them enter their world of fantasy,’ says Eloise. ‘When it comes to colours, Pisceans hate bold patterns, preferring muted and earthy tones like peach and subtle pinks.’
