YOD Group designs Terra restaurant interior to “mirror its surroundings”
Ukrainian structure studio YOD Team dressed this cafe interior in Vynnyky with terracotta tiles and slabs of environmentally friendly glass to mirror the earthy landscape exterior.
Termed Terra, the eatery attributes a color and materials palette that requires cues from the rolling hills and a lake that border the restaurant. It was done in February 2022, just before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
YOD Team established the interior throughout a single corridor, which functions clusters of plush, small-slung armchairs and sofas arranged close to each meandering and rectilinear dim wooden tables.
These seating areas are interrupted only by big rounded columns clad in glass bricks, which are illuminated from the inside to develop a watery inexperienced glow made to echo the nearby lake.
The premier of these columns residences a curved wine cellar inside of an inside spiral staircase, when the transparent glass reveals the ghostly silhouettes of stored wine bottles.
Textured terracotta tiles make up rounded waiter stations, which ended up created to mirror the earthiness of the restaurant’s exterior location.
The stations also nod to the Ukrainian custom of covering furnaces and fireplaces with tiles, in accordance to YOD Group.
“We aimed to extract colours, textures and impressions from the landscape to translate them into the interior design language,” discussed the studio.
“Like the eyedropper tool in Photoshop, but on a serious-life scale, we intended the place to mirror its surroundings.”
A different wall is coated in adjustable copper-hued glass slabs that function ornamental markings built by imprinting area grasses on their surfaces.
The moveable wall is supposed as a metaphor to symbolise the way reeds sway in the wind, claimed YOD Group.
“Visitors can not only contact the glass slabs but also interact with them and alter the sample on the wall, becoming co-creators of the style.”
Bouquets of pampas grass are interspersed through the inside, in a nod to the restaurant’s lakeside terrace the place website visitors can dine outside the house.
Terra is shortlisted in the cafe and bar interior class of the 2022 Dezeen Awards, which announces its winners later on this month.
Final calendar year, the category’s successful eatery was one more cafe in Ukraine – Yakusha Design’s Istetyka in Kyiv, which has an interior characterised by rough concrete, polished stone and smooth steel.
YOD Team also designed a coffee store in Ukraine’s cash that features pixel-like mosaics in a gap-in-the-wall-model bar.
